Ho‘oikaika Kino Curriculum

Ho‘oikaika Kino means “to strengthen the body.” This curriculum, developed by the Nā Hoa Ho‘ōla program at PREL, focuses on doing that by emphasizing how thoughts and feelings manifest as words and actions.

Primarily geared for students in grades 4–6, this substance abuse and violence prevention curriculum for Native Hawaiian students is built on the Hawaiian ‘ōlelo no‘eau, or wise saying, “He hale ke kino no ka mana‘o,” or “The body is the house for thoughts.” Ho‘oikaika Kino builds skills to increase a child's ability to make healthy choices, which also strengthens that child's body.
